Center for Performing Arts at Carmel High School
Carmel, California
Dear Big Sur Fiddle Campers, Audience, and Supporters,
This year BSFC is going to "Town" and Carmel, is Town for us. Armed with a whole bevy of new songs written by BSFC students over the past three years, we are headed to the Center for the Performing Arts at Carmel High to present our original musical, Sirena.
Auditions & Staffing
As we build a good Pirate crew, we need a fully staffed Stage Crew, great lighting and sound technicians, dancers and singers galore, chefs, fundraisers, photographers, as well as actors. If you would like to be involved at any level, please email us or come to the auditions. Community Service Credits available for highschoolers.
Big Sur Fiddlers
As a professional project and extension of the Fiddle Camp, we have many campers participating in the musical, singing, playing, composing and arranging the songs. This is a tremendous opportunity for our young musicians to get first hand experience putting together a professional production. From composing to regular rehearsals with actors and directors, the Sirena project reflects a 360-music experience for the Big Sur Fiddle Campers. All of this follows our mission to provide an unforgettable music education experience. The Sirena musical will be an unforgettable experience!
Ahoy ye mates!!

Character Details
Tomas is a young romantic fellow, who falls in love with Princess Ophelia. He is the servant of Prince Francis. He should probably be between 17 and 27 years old, ( or at least act so) with a good singing voice, probably a tenor.
The Pirate Captain is a good man gone astray in trying to earn some quick money for his family... His job as Pirate Captain takes over his life and when we meet him although he is a good leader for his men, he is quite introspective and is saddened by his life choice of leaving his family behind. He needs a good voice, tenor or baritone range--- He is not your typical gungho pirate,,more sensitive. He should be an adult,,preferably 35-65 years old.
Princess Ophelia is a romantic young Princess with a good heart, who does not want to be married to the stuck up lady's man Prince Francis.
She and Sirena are best friends even though technically Sirena works for her as her handmaid. She falls in love with Tomas and they make plans together. She needs to sing very well as a soprano or mezzo.
Dancers There are several adult/or teens acting as adults, roles for male and female ballroom dancers at the Court Ballroom, some of those will also be pirate dancers. There is little dialogue for most of these, but all are in the chorus ( or nearly all). We probably need about 10-12 dancers like this.
synopsis “Sirena”
the Pirate of the Rosy Red Castle
In the quiet hamlet of Garnet, at the end of the 1700s, King and Queen Lamotte are preparing to marry off their only daughter to the neighboring Prince. When Princess Ophelia escapes for a romantic evening with her secret love, she unwittingly puts her handmaiden and best friend, Sirena, in mortal danger. In a get-rich-quick scheme, the pirates of the Cherisa vessel capture Sirena, who they believe to be the Princess. Ambition, greed, love, and grace are sung, waltzed, and acted by our characters until the tangle of identities and emotions are revealed as two unexpected guests visit the Cherisa.
………………
Written during the Covid years, in their homes and at camps, the Sirena musical was created by our principal composer Sekoya Sleeth and several other BSFC students. Sekoya Sleeth, Naima Nascimento, Tyler Weed, Evan Weed, Momo Wang, MK Griffeth, Lili Menkel, Miles Zaud, Logan Zaud, and professional fiddler John Weed make up the Sirena musical ensemble. Your support builds our scholarship fund and supports BSFC in bringing this 3 year project to the stage.
Sirena opens June 29th, 30th, July 1st and 2nd at CHS
